The Importance of White

It’s been a few months since I’ve posted on my blog, but to say things have been busy would be the understatement of the year. I’m grateful (and slightly overwhelmed, to be honest) for the myriad of projects and attention that have come my way recently and I’m hoping to find some more time soon to share what I’ve been working on.

My lovely new client asked me to transform her formal living room and entry in Irvine, California, into a space that was elegant yet young. The room had been treated with venetian plaster and heavy red velvet drapes chosen by the previous owner.

The bare entry niche before.

I believe beautiful design is largely based on contrast. It’s for that reason, that I’m usually the first person to push for adding whites and cremes into almost any space, so as to allow the other tones in the room to lift. In this room especially, with the current venetian plaster, it really made all the difference.

By using dramatic white sheers and light furnishings, we were able to significantly brighten the space.

Young patterns in soft neutrals give the room an edge and keeps things from getting too stuffy.

Mirrored furniture with gold accents helped lend a lightness and glamour to the room.

From fringe to nailheads, tufting to gilding, there are classic details in almost every part of this room that are integrated in a soft and interesting way.

Addressing the entry niche in a large scale lacy wallpaper and contemporary coral prints in the same tones as the adjacent room, makes the two spaces feel like one.

The entry gets the impact it deserves!

I absolutely loved this project and the very trusting client who really just allowed me carte blanche to create this space. I personally find that with such freedom, comes great imagination and the eagerness to impress.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Love,

Nagwa
