Glamorous Master

Hello Lovelies,

HAPPY NEW YEAR to each and every one of you! I’m a big believer in LOVING your environment, and that’s why I wanted to start the year off by sharing a bedroom I completed for a busy professional that hired me last year. She works long, hard hours and most definitely needed a plush, glamorous space to receive her at the end of the day. Check out the transformation and my tips below.

Here are 5 tips on how to get this look:

1.These high ceilings were just begging for interest. Add crown moulding and you’ll not only add character, you’ll add elegance.

2. Use a sophisticated neutral. This one is Behr’s (780C-3) Ocean Pearl. Not just grey, not just beige. It’s greige!

3. Don’t know where to start? Pick something you LOVE and let it lead the way. The client’s cherry blossom painting was the perfect jumping off point for our color direction: shades of blue and soft neutrals.

4. Never underestimate the power of symmetry. If you need order and calm in your master bedroom, consider a pair of matching nightstands and lamps.

5. Add impact! Make a small window feel larger with dramatic sweeping drapes that fill the space around it. They may not be fully functional, but they will make for a beautifully luxurious backdrop.

A Cozy Home Office

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday and was able to spend lots of time with their loved ones. I was busy working, but managed to get away for a tasty dinner with some of my own favorite people. I’m quite thankful for that and, believe it or not, for the work!

I’m especially thankful to interior designer Thom Filicia for inspiring the first steps to this home office’s design. Last year, when I came across House Beautiful’s feature of Filicia’s showhouse apartment, (which you can see here), I did the first thing I figure most designers do with any fabulous idea they want to use– I pinned it!

Pinterest is an amazing tool for designers, and I’m big on saving ideas that I’d like to someday use in my work. I encourage anyone considering to decorate or remodel their home to sign up and get to pinning. Oh, and don’t forget to follow me!

To get back to this space, I’ll say briefly, this room used to belong to my client’s son, who has grown up and moved out. It had a perfectly good built-in that we decided to freshen up with paint and some sharp new hardware made of leather and chrome (from one of my favorite hardware stores B&C Custom Hardware and Bath). I was very conscious to go bold and interesting on the wall color/treatment, so that this room would really feel like an entirely new space for my client.

I hope you like it and that it inspires you! Enjoy!

Oh, and in case their son feels like coming home for a weekend with his folks, it should be noted that the plush tufted sofa pictured in the space, is actually a queen sleeper sofa. Although, now that I think about it, I failed to anticipate that it will probably be hard to get him to leave…

P.S. Photography is one of my many hobbies, so I’m proud to say I shot this one!
